An XML Sitemap serves as a roadmap for search engines like Google, Bing, and Yandex, informing them which pages, images, and videos are available on your website and when they were last updated.
Standard Limits
A single XML sitemap cannot exceed 50,000 URLs or 50MB uncompressed file size. If your website has more pages, you must divide them and use a Sitemap Index.
Sitemap Index Files
Sitemap indexes use the <sitemapindex> tag to reference multiple sub-sitemaps (e.g. pages, posts, products), allowing you to scale cleanly to millions of URLs.
Canonical & HTTPS URLs
Include only canonical, 200 OK URLs with absolute HTTPS paths. Never include 301 redirects, 404 broken pages, or URLs blocked by robots.txt.
